VISITORS CAN EXPERIENCE THE MUSEUM OF BIODIVERSITY
The Biomuseum comes to life: Amador Foundation and the Panama Tourism Authority have launched a program of guided tours, called ‘Meet the Biomuseo’. So far construction is very different from what is usually seen in Panama City, which has caused expectation of what will be one of the icons of Panama and a revolution to tourism in the country. But the site still has a sign that says “don’t touch”.

However, from November 13 the Biomuseum will open their doors to be shown. Although it is nearly two years away for its official opening, the Amador Foundation and the Tourism Authority of Panama have launched a guided tour program called “Meet the Biomuseo” which is a response to “public clamor, which was very curious to know how the museum will be.”
It’s our way of saying: ‘The museum is now open, get to know it, “said Margot Lopez, the communications coordinator of Fundación Amador. The tours will be held the second and fourth Friday of each month, in groups of 25 people who will receive a 20-minute talk about the content of the museum’s galleries and will see the progress of construction of the first work of architect Frank Gehry in Latin America.
The virtual tour of the galleries will show the story of the area the museum is in: how did the Isthmus of Panama arose and how this phenomenon has changed the ocean currents and altered the biodiversity of the environment. Visitors will see a projection of what will be the gallery “Panamarama” where, in an area with 14 screens, you will be immersed in an audiovisual presentation of the natural attractions of Panama.
In other galleries, “Oceans divided”, two semi-cylindrical aquarium show the evolution of the Pacific and the Caribbean to be separated by the creation of the isthmus. The visits are free and participants should register at the website of Biomuseum.
The construction works will require an investment of $ 60 million and is 73% complete. In the coming months the first gallery windows will be placed, the layers that form the ceilings will be installed and walls repelled in various points of the museum with an innovative system in Panama. In November, the movement of earth to create the bio-park will start.
For its part, the development of the script of the exhibitions is 85% advanced. These will begin to be installed once construction is completed the building, scheduled for September 2010. The making of the galleries, the acclimatization of the aquarium and the test period will be a year later, if the established timetable is met, the Biomuseum opens its doors to the public.
