Surf all year around in Pedasi Panama
A visit to Pedasi is a must for lovers of surf in Panama. Its privileged location on the Azuero Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean receives waves from the north, south and west, providing optimal conditions around the year.
The town of Pedasi is quiet and small, with several shops, including a surf shop which rents boards, and a few restaurants. Hotels in Pedasi are usually modest and comfortable for passengers with limited resources (high end hotels are also available), and the beach atmosphere is only enhanced by the friendliness of the locals. The food is good and cheap, made with local ingredients and many fresh seafood.
Pedasi itself is not on the coast, but it is close to the best beaches for surfing in Azuero, where you can enjoy good waves all year round without the crowds. Thirty minutes from Pedasi is Playa Venao the most popular beach in the area, host to the Central America Surfing Championship in 2007. Playa Venao beach breaks both left and right and the long beach provides several peaks to choose from. The waves at this beach with a sand bottom can reach up to 16 feet when the tide rises. Playa Venao has several hotels and restaurants.
Another good place for surfing in Pedasi is Playa Raya, named for the large manta rays that are here. The waves can be huge with large tubes, 15 to 20 feet, and at low tide you can see miles of secluded beach.
Other good beaches for surfing in Pedasi are Destiladeros Beach, Punta Lagarto, Playa El Toro, Playa Madrono and Ciruelo.
