About Islas Secas
Islas Secas is an uncomparable eco destination, which includes a string of 16 islands which are virtually untouched.
The name means “Dry Islands” in Spanish and is given because the island has 16 tide range gives the impression of dry because the bay completely empty twice a day. The most luxurious eco resort in Panama is located on Islas Secas and goes by the same name. The resort only uses one percent of the island’s mass and the owners vision is to keep it this way.
Fishing in Islas Secas
Fishing Species – Billfish, Dorado, Tuna, Sailfish, Marlin, Wahoo. The peak season for Billfish is December through April, with the prime months being January, February and March. Primarily, the winter months, have been the best for Billfish. For Blue Marlin and Black Marlin, live bait such as small tuna or larger size Bonita have been used. Also, large Tuna become abundant during March and April. Inshore fishing also include Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, Grouper, Dogtooth Snapper and a number of others.

About Isla Coiba
Isla Coiba is Panama’s largest Island, which is a part of Coiba National Park, off the Southwest Coast of Panama, which includes a set of 38 smaller islands and the surrounding marine areas within the Gulf of Chiriqui. Coiba National Park has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is a refuge to many threatened animals.
The island used to be a penal colony, which was moved to a different location. Considered internationally as Panama’s top eco-tourism destination, since it is one of the world’s top locations for fishing and adventure diving.
Fishing in Coiba
Hannibal Bank and Coiba National Park are world renowned fishing destinations, offering the opportunity to catch some of the largest fish of the Western Hemisphere. At least seven currents feed these waters, making them the perfect food chain. This is an excellent area for inshore and offshore fishing.
The peak season for billfish is December through April, with the prime months being January, February and March. For Blue Marlin and Black Marlin fishing, we typically use live bait: small tuna or large Bonita. Sometimes the Dorado are so thick, that we have to use 15lbs. Tuna or use our downriggers that are equipped on each boat. Billfish are not the only hot items in this area of Panama. Large Tuna become abundant during the months of February, March, April and May. The larger Tuna over 200 lbs. are most abundant during March and April. The islands surrounding Coiba are known as “Wahoo Alley“. During December, and then again in late April and May, Wahoo, 40 to 60 lbs. are abundant. For Dorado, prime season is January, February and March, with bulls of 50-60 lbs.
Ask your Captain, he will be happy to show you some great inshore fishing. Plugging and popping for Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, Roosterfish and Grouper are but a few of the treats that await those that enjoy inshore fishing. Giant Roosterfish have been caught in the bays around Coiba Island. Weighing up to 60lbs., these Roosterfish will really test your equipment and skills.

What to bring: dry clothes and towel for after the trip, sun block, water bottle (extra water is provided), shoes that you can get wet, camera, and passport (or copy) or cedula.
Meeting Time and Place: These trips leave from the Chiriqui Province of Panama. If you are staying in Boquete, we will pick you up at your Boquete Hotel at 7:00 am or we can meet in Plaza Los Establos on Main Street. We can also pick you up in David.
