Panama Cruise Season Starts
With more than 2 thousand passengers, the Royal Caribbean Cruise Grandeur of the Seas departed yesterday from the Panama home port of Colon 2000. With this cruise Royal Caribbean began its third season sailing from Panama.
This cruise and Ocean Dream, of the Spanish chain Pullmantur, are part of the ships that will set sail every seven days from the terminal on the Panamanian Caribbean. The 2010-2011 season will be extended until next June, two months more in comparison with last year, and is expected to embark from Colon about 85 thousand passengers – 35 thousand more than the previous season-, which will produce a rough flow of $72 million to the local economy.
Olga Jimenez, representative of the cruises line in Panama, indicated that this season ending in April is reserved 82%, mainly by Panamanians (17%), Colombians (25%), Argentines (8%) and Mexicans (8%). At the moment, Royal Caribbean has confirmed another season (2011-2012) and will depend on demand if they extend beyond 2013.
