On May 21 and 22 of 2011 in the small alpine community of Bambito, Panama the Casa Grande Hotel will host the Festival of Fine Art in the Highlands.
According to organizer, Linda Weldon (contact lindadenisew@yahoo.com), artists from throughout Panama as well as Costa Rica will display paintings, polleras, wood sculptures, original ceramics, hand made quilts, silkscreens of wildlife, and more.
For those interested in combining a trip to Panama’s highlands with a visit to the Festival of Fine Art in the Highlands Casa Grande Bambito is offering promotional rates for the weekend.
As well as a wide variety of fine art, the festival will feature music by such favorites as jazz musician Chris Cornejo. Bambito is 11 miles north of Volcan in an idyllic farming area ringed by mountain peaks and thick forest. At more than 5,000 feet above sea level the Bambito area is a pleasant relief from the heat and humidity of the lower regions of Panama.
For those from Panama City the Bambito region is a pleasant treat from the traffic and noise of the city.
For those interested in making a weekend out of their trip to the Panama highlands, a visit to Volcan Baru National Park. Volcan Baru is an 11,000 foot tall extinct volcano and the highest point in Panama. The park has several climate zones as one climbs toward the top of Volcan Baru.
In this range of habitats one finds over 250 species of bird including the resplendent quetzal. The park is also a refuge for mammals ranging from porcupines to pumas.
