History of Isla Grande

Isla Grande in the Colon Province of Panama is on the Caribbean coast. Isla Grande is accessible by road and is near Portobelo, located in a beautiful and protected bay. This population, founded 400 years ago was the arrival point  of Spanish ships and of great importance in the colonization of the Americas, where today you can admire the magnificent ruins of a strong fort in Portobelo and enjoy a culturally rich population of African colonial origin.

Believers in magic, their drums music is characteristic and infectious, and their dance, known as “Congo” is really a beautiful show full of tradition.

This dance has its origins linked to the period of massive forced migration in particular of the regions of Guinea and Congo, are consistent in cultural traits.

The inhabitants of this region are very religious. Your visit to the region is a great opportunity to learn about the Church of San Felipe, the headquarters of the Black Christ whom many miracles are attributed.

From there continue your journey along the coast to reach the town of La Guaira, where you will find parking facilities, which will guard your car and take a boat to cross to Isla Grande. This boat ride is done in just five minutes and brings you to this idyllic resort with a warm welcome.

Activities

Isla Grande is located within the Portobelo National Park on the Atlantic Coast, which features lush flora and diverse terrestrial and aquatic fauna, besides its magnificent coral reefs found along its coastline.

In Bananas Village Resort, you will be provided comfort and tranquility and you will have the opportunity to practice sports like diving, snorkeling, kayaks or fishing, an activity for which Panama is highly recognized worldwide. Participate in fun games of volleyball, ping – pong, pool or just relax and enjoy the sun at the seaside.

A pleasant boat trip will take you to the mangrove islands and nearby beaches, you will come into direct contact with nature. If your spirit is adventurous can take the eco-trail that will take you a few minutes from the Resort to the village.

This trail will give you the opportunity to learn more about the varied and extensive flora and fauna of the island. The beauty of the beach landscape is contrasted with the variety of flora that you will see on your tour.

This beautiful villa located just five minutes by boat from Bananas Resort offers you the opportunity to relax in a completely private atmosphere. There are four air-conditioned rooms, three bathrooms, kitchen, swimming pool, barbecue, satellite TV and the use of all facilities offered Bananas Village Resort.

Rates include:

* Accommodation up to 8 people maximum, including children, in four rooms with air conditioning, king or queen.
* Hotel taxes.
* Free Parking at the Base Juan Gallego.

Recreational activities include: use of the pool, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, pool table, board games, volleyball court, fishing pier, and so on, at no additional cost.

Check In: 3:00 p.m. / Check Out: 1:00 p.m.

Land transport and transfer by boat

Ground Transportation

It takes approximately 2 hours and rates are subject to change. Rates are for round trips.

Departing from the offices of Bananas Resort in Panama City:

Departure: 10:00 am, Departure of Isla Grande: 3:30 pm

From the airport: the pick up service is provided for people arriving on flights in the early morning (before 10:00) and flights departing after 7:00 pm

Ground transportation is offered daily for a minimum of four passengers, or a minimum cost per trip. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays (regularly scheduled trips), the minimum number of passengers can be waived.

Reservations: This service can be booked at least 24 hours prior to travel. Transportation may include other passengers and a stop.
