AVIATION – Panama in search of new airlines

A South American airline could connect Panama to Cape Town, through a “direct flight”, said Barcenas.

Attracting the European market is one of the priorities of the Panamanian authorities.

One of the objectives of the Panamanian authorities to encourage investment and tourism development of the country is increasing the connectivity and the number of seats arriving in Panama, said Rafael Barcenas, director of the Civil Aviation Authority (PCA) of Panama, which participates in Cartagena, Colombia, at the Forum of Leaders’ High Airlines in mid-October 2009.

Barcenas, who defended the open skies agreements between countries, said a South American airline could connect Panama to Cape Town, South Africa, through “a direct flight or making a stopover in South America.”

The official also acknowledged talks with other companies of the Caribbean, which did not reveal the name.
